After training at Bretton Hall College, Ed worked backstage in the West End before becoming Master Carpenter at the Mermaid Theatre in 1990. Around this time, Ed also began working as a freelance Production Manager; his first ever show in this role was Scrooge at the Birmingham Alexandra Theatre in 1992.
In 1995, whilst Ed was working as Master Carpenter at the Royal Court, he was asked to production manage Mojo and later Cleansed and The Weir, the latter of which transferred to the West End and Broadway. For Complicite, he production managed The Chairs (a Royal Court co-production in the West End and Broadway), Street of Crocodiles (Lincoln Centre Festival) and more recently, The Master and Margarita (Plymouth Theatre Royal, Barbican and European Tour). Ed was Production Manager for a number of Mathew Bourne's New Adventures productions including Edward Scissor Hands (UK and Sydney Opera House), The Car Man (UK Tour),Dorian Gray (2008 Edinburgh International Festival and Sadler's Wells).
Ed also spent 5 years as Production Manager of Billy Elliot in the West End from 2011-2015 and has been on the ENO's PM staff for two busy spells including The Italian Season (2000) in 2014 for Richard Jones' Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement In Opera for Rodelinda, Girl of The Golden West and Meistersingers. He has also worked freelance for Welsh National Opera, Hampstead Theatre, Soho Theatre (Dandy in The Underworld and Fit and Proper People) Curve Leicester (As You Like it), Chichester Festival Theatre (Neville's Island 2013) and the NYT (to name but a few!)
Ed spent three years as Technical Director of Theatre Royal Plymouth from 2001-2004 and oversaw the creation of their groundbreaking workshop facilities, TR2. He worked as General Manager of Cardiff Theatrical Services for 5 years, during which CTS built numerous West End shows and Magic Flute for Lyric Opera Chicago, Nutcracker! for Atlanta Ballet and Mamma Mia The Party at the 02. He was an External Examiner and then a Trustee of Bristol Old Vic Theatre School over a number of years. Most recently, Ed worked as a Director at Bay Productions in Cardiff.
